A couple of month ago I lost access to my previous website at http://gamesbyray.com including the first 9 articles in my I Have A Board Game Idea – Now What? Series. I was able to retrieve a couple of the entries from Google’s page cache and will be re-posting those articles here. The first one was the 6th entry in the series all about what exactly Kickstarter is and some tips on creating a great project page.

Welcome back everyone. For this installment of the I Have a Board Game Idea, Now What? series, we are going to be looking at what Kickstarter is and give you some tips on how to create your Kickstarter project page.
One of the biggest hurdles to publishing a board game is the amount of financial capital that is required. One option for raising the funds is by using crowd funding sites such as Kickstarter. Kickstarter is an online platform that allows you to post your product for a specific amount of time and a funding goal that you would like to reach in order to be able to make the product. You then receive fund pledges in exchange for some form of reward, usually the product that is being made. You can read more about how Kickstarter works by visiting their FAQ’s.
The first step to getting your product on Kickstarter is to create you Kickstarter account. Once your account has been created, you will need to create your project page. This is where you will be able to tell the world about your product and show it off using video, photos and text. You will also set a funding level and rewards. Here are some ideas to help you create the best project page possible:
- Create a video for your project page, preferably with you in it at some point
- Spend a little money on a few pieces of breath taking art
- Add a how to play video, appearing in it if you didn’t appear in the project video
- Submit your page for approval as early as possible
- When you feel your page is ready, share it with as many people as possible and refine it based on their feedback
There is no exact science to creating Kickstarter projects, but there are also a number of excellent blog posts on Stonemaier Games’ Kickstarter Blog that will help you finalize your project page as much as possible.
